| A gateway to this Département, it is located at the crossroads of the most important economic centres in Ile-de-France, opposite la Défense and at the junction of the built-up areas of Paris, Cergy-Pontoise and Roissy. |
Two stations serve Argenteuil with trains going to the Paris Saint Lazare station, one in the city centre and one in Val-d'Argent. It takes only 11 minutes from the central station to reach Paris.
The city centre station is also the terminus of about twenty bus lines that link, in minutes, Argenteuil to Bezons, Sannois, Enghien-les-Bains, la Défense, Nanterre, Cergy-Pontoise and Saint-Denis.
In 2011, a trolley line will arrive at the gates of Argenteuil joined, shortly after (by 2017) by the Tangentielle, a new trolley-train line. These new transportations will allow Argenteuil’s inhabitant to move even faster in Ile-de-France, from east to west.
Since 2005, Argenteuil has been forming an urban community with the neighbouring city of Bezons.
Among the many surprises the city has to offer: the extent of its territory, more than 17 sq km, divided into six unique neighbourhoods: Downtown, Val-Notre-Dame, Val d'Argent-Sud, Val-d'Argent-Nord, Coteaux and Orgemont and the quality of its landscape, including the north plains and the banks of the Seine, which remains in its natural state on over 7 km.
Argenteuil is an attractive city. Its proximity to the Parisian region economic centres, its attractive public transportation system and its important real estate market have been the drivers of its population growth in recent years. It is a young city, where a quarter of the population is under 25 years and where the birth rate remains high (+28% births between 2000 and 2008).
Argenteuil is a city of popular tradition, that is all about conviviality. Today it is a transforming city who entered the path of change and urban progress: it is currently in the process of renovating its social housing stock, while focusing on the quality of life of its inhabitants, rethinking the town planning based on the principles of sustainable development and ensuring the quality of public services, including access to health care and education.
Argenteuil’s priority: ensure that its 104 000 inhabitants- the 104 000 faces that make it such a unique city- are living together in a convivial environment.
An extensive transportation network allows people to move easily
