Culture, recreation and sports

Culture has always been a top priority for the city.

The train

Two stations serve Argenteuil with trains going to the Paris Saint Lazare station, one in the city centre and one in Val-d'Argent. It takes only 11 minutes from the central station to reach Paris.
The city centre station is also the terminus of about twenty bus lines that link, in minutes, Argenteuil to Bezons, Sannois, Enghien-les-Bains, la Défense, Nanterre, Cergy-Pontoise and Saint-Denis.
In 2011, a trolley line will arrive at the gates of Argenteuil joined, shortly after (by 2017) by the Tangentielle, a new trolley-train line. These new transportations will allow Argenteuil’s inhabitant to move even faster in Ile-de-France, from east to west.

Thus, the former city hall became a Conservatoire of Music and Dance at the Département level, and the park of the current city hall houses the Elsa-Triolet and Aragon library as well as the Jean-Gabin movie theatre.

The changing of the former tithe cave- where the peasants, in medieval times, used to store their agricultural products and wine- located at the heart of the Paul Vaillant-Couturier street, into a complex of concert halls and rehearsal studios, is another original transformation.
In 2009, the city has opened, just a few steps away, a new cultural centre, Le Figuier blanc, including a large auditorium of 500 seats and two movie theatres, replacing the old cinema Le Galilée. Overlooking the Seine, the Jean-Vilar cultural space organizes regular concerts.

Finally, the former Henri- Barbusse stadium hosts major cultural events including during the Festival d'Argenteuil, a festive gathering occurring during the summer.

Sport

There are approximately 36 sports clubs in Argenteuil teaching judo, boxing, rhythmic gymnastics, rowing, taekwondo and football. 16 000 licensed athletes are identified within the city’s associations.
The city comprises several sports facilities including gymnasiums, stadiums, an aquatic centre, an ice rink and an archery shooting range.

The road

The A86 and the A15 brings the city closer to neighbouring large built-up areas. Thus, it takes approximately fifteen minutes to get from Argenteuil to Porte Maillot.
